Roads of National Significance planning underway

The NZ Transport Agency (NZTA) has signalled their proposed delivery approach for the Government’s 15 Roads of National Significance (RoNS), with the release of the State Highway Investment Proposal (SHIP) today, Transport Minister Simeon Brown says.

“Boosting economic growth and productivity is a key part of the Government’s plan to rebuild the economy, and I’m pleased to see NZTA moving at pace in putting forward their proposed approach to deliver on the 15 RoNS,” Mr Brown says.

The Government Policy Statement on Land Transport (GPS) prioritises economic growth and productivity, maintenance and resilience, safety, and value for money.

Tauranga's $200m Elizabeth Towers development opens doors

A major development opening on Friday in Tauranga is part of a push to get residents back into the heart of the city.

The $200 million Elizabeth Towers has 23 townhouses and 96 apartments and included the rebuild of department store Farmers, which has sat on the corner of Devonport Road and Elizabeth Street for 50 years.

As the name suggests, it has two towers - one being 10 storeys and the other nine storeys.

Economic development agency Priority One chief executive Nigel Tutt said the city centre was going through a large transition.

"This is really quite a big change for Tauranga city, because we haven't had larger apartment blocks built previous to this."

Auckland Council monthly housing update, April 2024

April highlights:

• 1234 dwellings were consented in February 2024.
• In the year ending February 2024, 15,254 dwellings were consented in the region.
• 29 per cent of new dwellings consented in February 2024 were houses, 11 per cent were apartments and 60 per cent were townhouses, flats, units, retirement village units, or other types of attached dwellings.
• 50 dwellings were consented on Kāinga Ora or Tāmaki Regeneration Company owned land in February 2024.
• 1132 dwellings consented in February 2024 were inside the RUB. Over the past 12 months, 95 per cent of new dwellings consented were inside the RUB.
• 12 per cent of dwellings consented were inside the 1500m walking catchments of the rapid transit network in February 2024.
• 96 dwellings were consented on properties overlapping hazard zones in February 2024, accounting for 8 per cent of total dwellings consented. Over the past 12 months, 13 per cent of new dwellings were consented on properties overlapping a hazard zone.
• 1583  dwellings were ‘completed’ by having a Code Compliance Certificate (CCC) issued in February 2024.
• In the year ending February 2024, 18,642 dwellings had a CCC issued.
