Sudima Hotels opens a $40 million boutique hotel in Christchurch

Sudima Hotels has opened a new $40 million luxury boutique hotel in Christchurch, the first new-build hotel in Christchurch since the earthquakes, as it starts ground work on a new Kaikoura hotel.

The other hotels to open in the city after the earthquakes have been redevelopments or conversions of existing buildings, the hotel's chief executive Sudesh Jhunjhnuwala said.

It's Sudima's second hotel in Christchurch and fourth in the national chain taking its assets to about $200m. It has hotels at Auckland Airport, Rotorua and Christchurch Airport, the latter having a $25m makeover in 2015.

Pukekohe to undergo 'game-changing' transformation

The Super City's southern-most town has been given a green light for a "game-changing" make-over.

Auckland Council-controlled organisation, Panuku Development Auckland, was given the go ahead this week - to progress on a strategy to unlock Pukekohe's potential.

The high-level project plan (HLPP) was approved by Auckland Council, following endorsement by the Franklin Local Board last month.

Makeover planned for Greenslade Reserve

A joint effort is now underway to transform Greenslade Reserve into a new recreational facility complete with a playing field for rugby league and cricket, attractive recreational facilities from terraced seating to BBQ areas, a walking loop and a native planted urban wetland.

The problem of local flooding will also be addressed.

These works are part of the Awataha Greenway Project and the regeneration of Northcote’s town centre, a partnership between Auckland Council, Panuku Development Auckland, HLC and other local partners to transform Northcote.

Panuku Northcote Project Sponsor Angelika Cutler believes the transformation of Greenslade Reserve will bring huge benefits for Northcote.
