Updated Public Housing Plan: Including 2024 -2025 delivery released

The Updated Public Housing Plan: Including 2024 -2025 delivery outlines the Government’s public housing supply intentions for the 3,000 additional public housing places that were committed to as part of Budget 23 funding.

The Updated Public Housing Plan: Including 2024 - 2025 delivery is an extension of the Public Housing Plan 2021-2024 and builds on the earlier 2018 – 2022 Public Housing Plan. 

The Updated Public Housing Plan focuses on increasing delivery across Aotearoa New Zealand’s regions compared to major metropolitan centres which have seen strong public housing delivery to date.

Homestar 6 rated public homes ready for whānau in South Auckland

These homes, all built to Homestar Standard 6, will accommodate around 50 locals who are in urgent need of safe, dry housing.

Manurewa sits in Counties Manukau, a fast-growing region with a population of more than 500,000 – or 11% of the population of Aotearoa New Zealand. Currently there are 741 people in Manurewa on the Ministry of Social Development housing register, that is, people not in public housing but who have been assessed as needing to be housed.

Angela Pearce, Regional Director Counties Manukau says, "The opening of the public housing on Dr Pickering Avenue and Friedlander Road signifies new beginnings for 19 individuals or whānau who now have a place to call home.”

Kensington residents fear they aren’t being heard as Kāinga Ora applies for resource consent

Kensington residents have organised a community meeting to share the plans for Kāinga Ora’s proposed social housing development.

The meeting comes after residents and ratepayers from the Kensington Development Group informally met with a community engagement representative last month around “vague, incomplete and minimal” information from Kāinga Ora thus far about the proposed social housing units in Whangārei.

Kāinga Ora plans to build 63 new homes on land it owns in Cairnfield Rd, Churchill St, King St, Kamo Rd and Lovatt Cres. Most of the sites will feature two- and three-storey blocks.
