Ikea's first NZ store coming to Auckland

Ikea is coming to Auckland, followed by the South Island - and it's bringing its famous meatballs, and up to 400 jobs.

Ikea's New Zealand manager, Will Edwards, confirmed on Friday morning the new Ikea store will open in Auckland, and he also promised to complement the store with a second store for the regions.

While he wouldn't give an exact time frame for the megastore launch, Edwards said it would take a number of years to set up. In the meantime, Ikea would open a popup shop in central Auckland.

New apartment block planned for Thorndon

An 11-unit residential apartment block is coming to the corner of Wellington's Tinakori Rd and Park St.

Plans on the recently approved resource consent documents include its design of two parallel buildings of interconnected three-storey villas, each with their own balcony and front lawn.

The ground floor is mostly garage space with a bedroom. The second floor includes an open plan living and dining room, with a kitchen and balcony. The third floor contains two more bedrooms.

The new development was designed by Solari architects.

Five-storey hotel proposed for Napier's Marine Parade

Plans for a five-storey hotel on Napier's Marine Parade are being considered by Napier City Council.

The Auckland-based Nautilus Family Trust has applied for resource consent to build a 47-unit hotel on the corner of Marine Pde and Albion St.

The property has been vacant since the building on it was demolished about two years ago.

The proposed building's ground floor would include a commercial/retail tenancy as well as the hotel reception and seven carparks for three residential apartments that would be on the top floor.
